![]() Sunrift seems to be an anchor or stopping point for many coming from Furman or even downtown Greenville, SC. The two incidences have caused a happy relationship as people come into the shop to buy and rent bikes and outdoor gear from and for the swamp rabbit trail. It just happens to be on the swamp rabbit trail. The Sunrift outdoor store in TR is a must stop for outdoor enthusiasts on the way up to the Blue Ridge Mountains. While TR has had Paris Mountain and Furman University, the swamp rabbit trail seemed to tap into the outdoor healthy lifestyle folks around here love. This trail has spurred development all over Greenville County, but no where is it most evident then in TR. One of the driving forces for change in Travelers Rest, SC has been the Swamp Rabbit Trail. You can even rent it out for events such as weddings and birthdays. The park also features movies, festivals and events. The park has panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and hosts the largest farmers market in South Carolina. The Swamp Rabbit Trail has a spur to connect it to the park. The park in itself is super cool with an amphitheater, farmers market, concerts, yoga classes and more. Several of the restaurants which started in TR have branched out into other parts of Greenville and South Carolina. The businesses are tasteful, healthy, fun, a little decadent, convenient and unique. Perhaps Furman University influences the tone of the town, but whatever it is works. The little town has come alive with new, modern entrepreneurs opening businesses that reflect them. In 2006 the City Council started a "downtown revitalization" plan to create "elements" in TR to attract home buyers and business. TR seems to have a corner on cool things to do. Well it seems TR has again become a place for rest, but this time it's for people using the Swamp Rabbit Trail to bike, walk and ride out from downtown Greenville, SC. The reason TR exists in the first place is it was a rest stop on the way to the Blue Ridge Mountains when people would come up during the summers (before Air conditioning) to cool down.
